Prof. V.C. Kulandai Swamy
A very distinguished scholar-administrator and poet,
Professor V.C.Kulandai Swamy was Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, Anna University and Indira Gandhi National Open University, and is presently Chairman of Tamil Virtual University. He has authored several books and articles and besides being the recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award (1998), Padma Shri Award (1992), and Padma Bhusan Award (2002), he is conferred with D.Sc (Honoris Causa) / D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) by seven universities. He was a member of the UNESCO Planning Group (1978) for the preparation of the Second Six Year Plan (1981-86) of the International Hydrologic Programme (IHP) and was UNESCO Advisor (1979-81) in Hydraulics and Hydrology at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and is now Member of International Follow-up Committee for World Conference on Higher Education, UNESCO. |

Prof. M. Nannan
An erudite scholar and an eminent teacher of Tamil, Prof. M. Nannan was Director, Directorate of Tamil Development, Chennai and taught Tamil through Doordarshan, Chennai for seventeen years. Widely acclaimed as a teachers’ teacher, he is listened to with respect and admiration. He has written thirty books apart from sixty dramas.

Dr. Silamboli Chellappan
Dr. Silamboli S. Chellappan Known for his scholarship and oratorical skills, he has held various administrative positions in institutions devoted to the development of Tamil. He was Registrar, Tamil University, Thanjavur, Director, Directorate of Tamil Development, Chennai, and Director, International Institute for Tamil Studies, Chennai. He was awarded Kalaimamani Award and Pavendhar Bharathidasan Award by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Kavikko Dr. Abdul Rahman
One of the best known of living Tamil poets, Kavikko Dr. Abdul Rahman was Professor of Tamil in Islamia College, Vaniyampadi, for three decades. His eight volumes of poems, sixteen volumes of essays and two volumes of research articles have earned him a lasting reputation. He was awarded Pavendhar Bharathidasan Award and Kalaimamani Award by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Dr. Manavai Mustafa
Holding the very prestigious position of Managing Editor and Publisher of UNESCO Courier since 1975, Dr. Manavai Mustafa through his speeches and writings justified the claim for the recognition of Tamil as a classical language. He has published one hundred and twenty books for Southern Languages Book Trust and has been awarded Kalaimamani Viruthu, Thiru Vi Ka Viruthu, Best Translator Viruthu and Kuralpeeta Viruthu by the Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Avvai Natarajan
As Secretary of the Department of Tamil Language Development and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu and as the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University, Thanjavur, Dr. Avvai Natarajan has done yeoman service to the cause of Tamil language and literature. He has lectured extensively on complex literary subjects bringing out the richness and grandeur of Tamil. As “the famous son of a famous father,” he commands great respect in the Tamil-speaking world.

Prof. Solomon Pappiah
A well known debater, orator and public figure, Professor Solomon Pappiah was Professor and Head, Department of Tamil, American College, Madurai till 1994. He has penned four books and is in great demand as a speaker on literary and sociological themes in the entire Tamil Nadu. He was awarded Kalaimamani Viruthu by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2000.

Kavinar Dr. Erode Thamizhanban
A reputed poet and eminent professor of Tamil, Erode Thamizhanban was Tamil Newscaster, Chennai Doordarshan Kendra for more than fifteen years. He has to his credit fifty books out of which twenty nine are collections of poems which have been well received by the Tamil public. He has won several awards including Kalaimamani Viruthu, Kuralpeeta Viruthu, and Sahitya Akademi Award (2004).

Perunkavikko Dr. V.M. Sethuraman
An ardent fighter for the cause of Tamil, Perunkavikko V.M. Sethuraman, is known for his varied achievements, especially for his thirty volumes of poems, seven volumes of short epics, five epics, nine volumes of travelogues and three volumes of translations. He was awarded Kalaimamani Viruthu by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1990.

Prof. M.P. Balasubramaniyam
As a professor of Tamil for more than three decades and as the Principal of the Pachayappa’s College (for Men), Kancheepuram, Prof. M.P. Balasubramaniam has made valuable contributions in the fields of Tamil Literature and Education. He was awarded Pavendhar Bharathidasan Viruthu by the Government of Tamil Nadu in recognition of his numerous creative and critical writings in Tamil.

Dr. Iravatham Mahadevan
A living legend in the field of Indian epigraphy, Dr. Iravatham Mahadevan has specialised in the Indus Script and the Brahmi Script. He was awarded the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship in 1970 for his research in the Indus Script. Early Tamil Epigraphy: From the Earliest Times to the Sixth Century A.D., his magnum opus, was published in 2003 by the Harvard University, USA and Cre-A, Chennai. He has widely travelled and participated in several international conferences.
