In the first Consultative Meeting of experts convened by the Centre of Excellence for Classical Tamil, numerous programmes were suggested for inclusion in the action plan to be taken up for immediate implemention. If was felt that all the activities should focus on research relating to Classical Tamil and that the period from the 3rd Century B.C. to the 6th Century A.D. could be taken into account for this purpose. The programmes that would highlight the antiquity and uniqueness of Classical Tamil were carefully vetted from the standpoint of translation into action and brought under the following ten major projects :
