Digital Library For Ancient Tamil Studies

About this project

The aim of this project is to digitize all the ancient Tamil literary works for easy access to Tamil scholars and students.

The following are the major tasks to be undertaken:
	1.	Creating a national repository for Tamil heritage
	2.	Comprehensive collection on Ancient Tamil Studies
	3.	Providing an advanced search facility in Tamil and English for studies on Ancient Tamil
	4.	Developing an Online Bilingual Tamil-English Thesaurus for the field of Ancient Tamil studies
	5.	Developing a software and user-friendly interface

The structure of the Digital Library
 
Macro Structure:

Micro Structure:

• Advanced search facility
	1.	Text mode: Critical editions of ancient works
	2.	Search facility in Roman  and Tamil script
	3.	Voice mode:  with and without music, with commentary etc
	4.	Presenting data in E-Text and Image File Formats
	5.	Providing standard version and the hyphenated version simultaneously
	6.	Icons for everything representing the relative work
	7.	Use of Unicode
	8.	Use of pseudo library – use of different colors of ink for updating data
	9.	Providing audio at the final stage
	10.	FAQ in English
	11.	Both book and electronic forms for publications
	12.	Collection of data from all major libraries in India
