CENTRAL PLAN SCHEME FOR CLASSICAL TAMIL
AWARDS
(2005-06, 2006-07 & 2007-08)

Call For Nominations

The Institute under its Central Plan Scheme for Classical Tamil proposes to honour eminent scholars having outstanding contribution relating to Classical Tamil by conferring the following awards, for which nominations are invited:

1. Tholkappiar Award (includes a certificate of honour, a memento and a one time cash of Rs. 5 lakhs- one award for each year for Indian nationals)

2. Kural Peedam Award (includes a certificate of honour, a memento and a one time cash of Rs. 5 lakhs - two awards for each year, one for Foreigner and another for Non-Resident Indian)

3. Young Scholar Award (includes a certificate of honour, a memento and a one time cash award of Rs.1 lakh - five awards for each year for young scholars in the age group of 30-40 years)

The awards will be presented by the President of India.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Published works of academic excellence in different fields relating to the Classical phase of Tamil (upto 600 A.D.) shall be considered for award. The works published during the period between 1950 and 2007 in the fields of grammar, literature, translation, fine arts, architecture,archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics, manuscriptology, culture, etc. shall be eligible.

2. A foreigner is one who possesses a valid and current passport of any country other than India.

3. A Non-Resident Indian is one who is resident of a country other than India but has an Indian passport, or one who was once an Indian citizen but subsequently taken up citizenship of another country.

4. Eligible scholars may be nominated by scholars, language
enthusiasts and academic institutions. Those who have already
sent nominations in response to the Institute’s earlier
announcement in November 2005 need not send again.

5. Each nomination shall include the following details about the
nominee:

  1. Name and address with contact phone numbers & email address
  2. Date of birth
  3. Previous / present position
  4. List of works with emphasis on research
  5. A one page write up about the significant contribution in
    the field of Classical Tamil research

numbers and email address should also be furnished.
